Ruane suspends efforts in District 1 county commission race
Sanibel mayor Kevin Ruane has suspended his campaign in the Lee County Commission race for District 1.
“My campaign for Lee County Commissioner has been an extraordinary experience,” Ruane said in a letter to supporters also released to the media. ” We are so lucky to be able to live in such a wonderful community and the campaign has certainly confirmed that.
“However, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to suspend my candidacy effective immediately. Due to a recent serious health issue with a family member, I am unable to meet the obligations of the campaign at this time. I did not come to this decision lightly, but as many of you know my family is always my primary responsibility and will continue to be.
“I plan to continue on as mayor of Sanibel and look forward to seeing many of you over the coming months. Also, please know that I will be returning all of my campaign contributions.”
