Last hurrah
Cape Coral’s water park is offering a discount to all as its season come to an end. Admission to Sun Splash Family Waterpark during its final two weekends – Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13, and Sept. 19-20 – is only $10, plus tax. Residents and non-residents are eligible.
No special coupon is required.
“Everybody gets in for a $10 ticket,” Sandi Greiner, the water park manager, said.
With the special offer, residents can save between $3 and $5. Non-residents can save $6 to $8.
“So it’s a substantial savings,” she said.
The normal daily parking fee of $5 per vehicle will apply.
“We also do 20 percent off everything in the gift shop, even the souvenir cups,” Greiner said, adding that the meal cards are the only exception.
Souvenir cups are eligible for 99-cent refills at the park.
She explained that the gift shop is clearing out its inventory before the close of season.
“You could obviously buy things for a lot cheaper,” Greiner said.
Last year was the first time that the park offered the season’s end discount.
“It was successful,” she said of the trial. “It kind of brings us the added revenue and the added attendance that we need to end on a successful note.”
Greiner explained that park attendance normally drops off at this time of the year.
“Everybody goes back to school,” she said. “They go to football games and baseball games.”
Last year, the discount resulted in an average daily turnout of about 1,250 visitors.
“A couple of days we actually hit capacity,” Greiner said.
The water park’s capacity is limited to 1,650 people at a time.
More families showed up last year to take advantage of the discount.
“It’s kind of their last hooray,” she said. “Even grandparents we see a lot more of.”
Due to the limited capacity, visitors should arrive early to ensure entry.
Greiner added that an earlier arrival ensures some fun before any afternoon showers.
“There will be no rain checks because of the deep discount already,” she said.
According to Greiner, an average attendance of about 1,300 each day would be ideal.
“It’s nice being in the park, it’s not overly crowded,” she said. “The experience is better if you’re not totally at capacity.”
“We just need the weather to hold up,” Greiner added.
Sun Splash Family Water is open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 20. The park typically reopens on the second weekend in March; it is tentatively set to do so for the 2016 season.
“Next year, we will have a new Tot Spot,” she said. “So, it’s our last hooray with it at it stands.”
The new Tot Spot, which will be constructed during the off season, will offer more features. Greiner explained that the options include play features that work for both little children and bigger youth.
“I think it will be more inclusive in handling more age groups,” she said.
