Lee County participating in National Recreation and Parks month celebration
Parking fees will be waived Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, at Lee County-managed boat ramps and regional parks, and admission will be waived at the county’s swimming pools in recognition of National Park and Recreation Month.
There will be 24 sites at which no fees will be applied, including:
– Regional parks: Lakes Park, Manatee Park, Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, Caloosahatchee Regional Park, Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve
– Beach sites: Bonita Beach Accesses No. 1 and No. 10, Bonita Beach Park, Bowditch Point and Lynn Hall Memorial Park, Bunche Beach, Bowman’s Beach and Turner Beach (north side only of Blind Pass)
– Boat ramps: Punta Rassa, Matlacha, Alva, Davis, Pine Island Commercial Marina and Imperial River
– Pools: Lehigh Community Pool, North Fort Myers Community Pool, Pine Island Community Pool and San Carlos Community Pool.
This year, the city of Cape Coral also is participating by waiving fees at its five boat ramps, including the Cape Coral Yacht Club Boat Ramp, Horton Park, Rosen Park, Burnt Store Marina and BMX Boat Ramp.
Not included in the free parking weekend are sites within city limits of other governments, including Barefoot Beach, beach access points managed by the Town of Fort Myers Beach and city of Sanibel sites including the south side of Blind Pass.
Lee County Commissioners on June 16 designated the free parking and free swimming pool admission dates for county sites the last weekend of July.
“Lee County is pleased to be a part of the nationwide celebration and help recognize the value and benefits of parks and recreation,” Lee County Commission Chairman Brian Hamman said. “Enjoy a free summer weekend at our facilities.”
Lee County Summer Camps also are participating. To recognize this annual celebration, each Lee County Parks & Recreation summer camp sites will provide an activity or project to showcase within its park setting.
