Fans and patrons of Fletcher’s Grille & Spirits and Club Fletcher’s, located at 627 Cape Coral Parkway, W., will have a new place to go to in a few months.

Fletcher’s officials have announced they have closed to make way for a Duffy’s sports bar that is currently remodeling and expected to open that location sometime in September.

Fletcher’s closed June 22. The official announcement was made on its website, thanking its customers for their patronage while letting the future of the building be known.

“Fletcher’s would like to thank all of its customers for their wonderful patronage. At this time Fletcher’s Grille & Spirits and Club Fletcher are closed. They have been sold to Duffy’s,” the announcement said. “Duffy’s is remodeling and should be opening in the beginning of September.”

Cape Coral City Councilmember John Carioscia said he has fielded numerous calls and Facebook messages concerning Fletcher’s, which was originally Houli-han’s when former insurance mogul Peter Look bought the place and later changed the name.

Carioscia has fond memories of the place.

“It was clean, safe, the price was right. We would go there with my fellow ballplayers and their wives and girlfriends and watch the band and have a great night.” Carioscia said.

Duffy’s Sports Grill, which has 30 locations throughout the state, including its first Gulf Coast location in Estero in February, bought the building.

The original Duffy’s Drafthouse, was founded by two childhood friends turned business partners in Lake Park, Florida in 1985.

In 2001, Paul Emmett bought controlling interested and rebranded the company.

Carioscia said in speaking with Jason Emmett, Duffy’s president, that he expects the new tenants to be good neighbors.

“He assures me that they’re only going to change the menu and make some cosmetic changes like the sign and keep the dance club,” Carioscia said. “The guy was eager to answer questions, was laid back in his demeanor top shelf.”

Calls to the corporate officers at Duffy’s were not returned late Tuesday afternoon.
