Cape Coral Construction Industry Association to hold fundraising tourney

3 min read

Time is running out to register early for the annual Hard Hat Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament. Presented by Storm Smart and Cape Coral Plumbing, the deep stack tourney will kick off at 7 p.m. on July 17 at the Cape Coral Yacht Club. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

The event is one of a couple of fundraisers for the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association.

“The money raised from that helps us with our budget and to keep the organization going,” Bill Johnson Jr., executive director of the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, said.

The entry fee is $85 for players or $30 for spectators and includes dinner, which will be provided by Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon. Complimentary beer and wine are covered in the price of the tickets.

Each player will receive 10,000 chips to start out with.

“We have over 100 players that play,” he said, adding the same is turnout expected this year.

A game of Texas Hold ’em, players will be eliminated as the evening proceeds.

“Throughout the night, those 100 players will eventually be whittled down to the one final table,” he said, comparing the game to the poker competitions seen on television. “It’s winner-take-all.”

The first-place winner will receive $1,500; the highest hand of the night will win $100.

“We will keep track of the highest hands at all the tables,” Johnson said.

Players who register early will receive as extra 1,000 chips.

“We would like them to register in advance,” he said.

Advance registration runs through Sunday.

“But we won’t turn anyone away if they want to come and play,” Johnson said.

Attendees are asked to bring a food item or monetary donation to help out the Cape Coral Caring Center. It is being collected as part of the SOS Save Our Summer Feed The Cape campaign.

“It’s a way to give back to a great foundation for a great cause,” he said. “If people bring canned food items or monetary donations, they will receive an additional bonus (chips) when the check in.”

The SOS Save Our Summer Feed The Cape campaign kicked off last month at Rumrunners at the Marina at Cape Harbour. In its third year, the goal of the campaign is to bring in additional donations for the center from June through August to help those in the community hit harder in the summer.

Last year, the campaign brought in about 7,500 pound of food and approximately $36,000.

Johnson urged people to sign up for the tournament, or at least come out.

“Poker is one of our good pastimes – it’s been a tradition with us, and we always have fun,” he said. “It’s a great event that not only helps support the CCCIA, but it is also helping the Caring Center.”
