Two Cape residents killed in traffic crash
Two Cape Coral residents were killed Friday in a traffic crash in Lehigh Acres that hospitalized two others.
Aida Perez Garcia, 60, and Onesimo Medaldo Rodriquez, 66, were pronounced dead at the scene. Pedro Cabrera Rodriguez, 48, and Peter Anthony Cabrera, 19, both also of the Cape, were listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where they were transported following the accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Ryan Todd Powers, 39, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling east on Milwaukee Boulevard in a Ford F-350 and approaching Homestead Road South. At the time, Rodriguez was driving a Volkswagen Passat north on Homestead toward Milwaukee.
Garcia, Rodriquez and Cabrera were passengers in Rodriguez’s vehicle.
According to the FHP, Powers violated the right of way of Rodriguez as both vehicles entered the intersection at approximately 3:05 p.m. The Ford struck the left side of the Volkswagen.
The rear seat occupants, Garcia and Rodriquez, reportedly died due to the crash.
The FHP noted that neither were wearing seat belts at the time.
Rodriguez and Cabrera were taken to the hospital with critical and serious injuries, respectively.
Powers was not injured in the accident.
According to the FHP, the crash is not alcohol or drug related.
Powers was cited for a violation of right of way.
