Skateboarding pedestrian struck by vehicle released from hospital
A skateboarder was released from the hospital after being struck by a van two months ago.
As of Thursday, Matthew Stephen Sheung-Burden, 19, of 413 N.W. 27th Ave., had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the accident, officials said.
On April 21, Sheung-Burden was riding a skateboard on Embers Parkway West in the outside lane, traveling near the center of the lane.
At about 9:41 p.m., Sheung-Burden was struck from behind in the 1000 block by a Ford E250 work van heading westbound on Embers, according to the Cape police.
The roadway has poor lighting, and Sheung-Burden was wearing dark-colored clothing.
Police reported that Sheung-Burden sustained life-threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to the hospital.
The driver the van, Richard Michael Heisler, 32, of 110 N.W. 15th Place, was not injured.
The accident is not believed to be alcohol or drug related.
