Lee County operations make adjustments for Memorial Day

2 min read

The Memorial Day holiday on May 25 will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations. Here are the changes:

Animal Services

Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed for the holiday, but will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.

LeeTran

LeeTran will not run mainland bus or paratransit service on the holiday, but will provide trolley transportation to, and on, Fort Myers Beach. The Park & Ride Trolley will run every 40 minutes starting at 7 a.m. at the free parking lot on Summerlin Square Drive. It will travel back and forth to Bowditch Point Park and end service at 10:10 p.m. on the mainland.

The Beach Trolley will start service at 6:45 a.m. at Bowditch Park, running every 30 minutes to Lovers Key State Park. Service will end at 9:10 p.m. at Lovers Key. The schedule can be found at www.rideleetran.com.

Libraries

All library locations will be closed on Monday and each branch will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, May 26.

Parks & Recreation

Parks, pools and preserves remain open on Monday, but offices and recreation centers are closed until Tuesday, May 26.

Solid Waste

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning May 25. This means that if the regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday. This schedule is in effect through Saturday, May 30. Regular collection schedules resume on Monday, June 1.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed Monday, including the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, and the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road.

The Solid Waste Department urges all residents to recycle the paper, plastic, metal and glass from your Memorial Day weekend activities.
