The driver in last week’s accident that left two dead was released from the hospital.

As of Tuesday, Harold Burns, 75, of Cape Coral, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken Wednesday following the crash on McGregor Boulevard, officials reported.

Susan Burns, 70, and Michael Krochmal, 68, both of the Cape, were fatally injured in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Harold Burns was driving a Kia Sorento south on McGregor. Susan Burns and Krochmal were passengers in his SUV, along with Pamela Krochmal, 62, also of the Cape. At 5:35 p.m, Burns tried to turn left into Bridge Plaza, south of College Parkway.

Burns reportedly turned in front of a Ford F-350, driven by Jessica Orr, 38, also of Cape Coral, that was traveling north on McGregor. The front of the Ford struck the right side of the Kia, and the Kia was pushed to the northeast, where the front of the vehicle then hit the front left of a Saturn L300.

The Saturn, driven by Graciela Ramos, 38, of the Cape, was waiting to exit the plaza.

Officials reported that Burns and Pamela Krochmal sustained critical injuries in the accident and were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. Pamela Krochmal was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

Neither Orr nor Ramos reported sustaining any injuries during the crash.

According to the FHP, Burns was wearing a seat belt at the time. However, it is unknown whether Susan Burns, Michael Krochmal or Pamela Krochmal were wearing seat belts at the time.

It is reportedly unknown if the crash was alcohol related.
