Jogger seriously injured
A Cape Coral man was critically injured after he was struck by a pickup truck while jogging in the 2600 Block of Diplomat Parkway Thursday evening.
James P. Rosso, 20, suffered “life threatening injuries” and was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital, Cape Coral police said in a prepared statement issued Friday morning.
“Rosso is currently in critical but stable condition at Lee Memorial Hospital,” the release states.
The accident happened around 8:10 p.m.
Police say their investigation shows the pickup truck, driven by Ronald Bulat, 64, of Cape Coral, was traveling eastbound in the outside lane when it struck Rosso, who was running in the outside lane with two other people.
“All three were running shoulder to shoulder ” and Russo was near the middle of the lane, police said, adding he was not wearing any reflective clothing or safely gear.
The driver spotted him running in the roadway, attempted to swerve to the left, but was unable to avoid hitting him.
Bulat, who reported no injuries, immediately stopped, police said.
“Due to injuries, a Major Crash Investigation has been started,” the release states.
The crash is not alcohol or drug related.
