Michael Ilczyszyn appointed assistant city manager

City Manager John Szerlag has appointed Michael Ilczyszyn as the city’s assistant city manager.
Ilczyszyn has been filling the role on an “interim” basis since September 2014. Ilczyszyn will have oversight responsibility of the city’s service departments City Clerk, Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology as well as the utilities extension project. His salary will be $115,000.
“Throughout his career with the city, Mike has demonstrated his commitment to the professional standards and leadership qualities necessary to be successful in this position,” said Szerlag in a prepared statement released Tuesday afternoon. “His knowledge base and collaborative approach to management are a good fit for the organization and our senior management team.”
Ilczyszyn began his career with the city in 2002 as a water plant operator at the city’s reverse osmosis plant. His focus on identifying process improvements at the plant led to his promotion to business manager for the Public Works Department in 2007. In 2011, Ilczyszyn transferred to the City Manager’s Office, where he has been directing and overseeing special projects.
Ilczyszyn has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from FGCU and is pursuing his master’s degree in public administration, also from FGCU. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1997-2000 performing counterdrug operations aboard the USS Yorktown.
Ilczyszyn is married and has two children, a son and daughter.
