Man charged in home invasion robbery remains in jail
A man accused of taking part in a recent Cape Coral home invasion remained in jail on Tuesday.
David Monestime Jr., 21, of 27617 S. View Drive, Bonita Springs, was being held at the Lee County Jail without bond on one count of robbery residence home invasion with firearm other deadly weapon.
At about 9:46 p.m. Wednesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed home invasion at 11574 Royal Tee Circle, within the Cape Royal community. The victims were a husband and wife.
According to officials, the couple was home when the front door bell rang. The husband opened the door, but no one was there. He moved onto the front porch, where he was suddenly hit on the head with an object and pushed to the ground. While he was on ground, four suspects beat the man in the face.
The victims told deputies that the four suspects had their faces covered, and that they had at least two guns and a knife in their possession. The suspects kept asking them, “Where is your money?”
Officials reported that the husband was eventually able to escape to a neighbor’s house and call 911. While the suspects ransacked the residence, the wife was also able to run to a neighbor’s home.
Evidence uncovered during the investigation allegedly led authorities to a Bonita Springs man and provided them with probable cause to arrest Monestime. He was taken into custody on Saturday.
Deputies are still searching for the other three suspects in the case, according to officials.
