Wicked fun
People have a chance to sample Wicked Dolphin Distillery’s brands during a weekend event.
The second annual South Cape Party in Paradise Rum Crawl will be held from 4-11 p.m. Saturday in the downtown area. Twelve venues will offer $2.50 drinks using one of the Wicked Dolphin spirits. The crawl is being co-hosted by the distillery and South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations.
“We are trying to promote our local distillery, Wicked Dolphin,” Shelly LaPaglia, the owner of BackStreets Sports Bar and member of the associations, said. “Get everybody to taste their product.”
Located in the Cape, Wicked Dolphin Distillery currently produces five different brands. It produces Silver Rum and Spiced Rum, as well as RumShine in the flavors apple, strawberry and blueberry.
“All of the venues will be using one of their items,” she said.
The RumShines are relatively new for Wicked Dolphin.
“It’s their line of rumshines, instead of moonshines,” LaPaglia said.
For example, BackStreets will be serving up a “Wicked Apple” for the event. The drink consists of Apple RumShine mixed with Angry Orchard Hard Cider and cranberry juice.
She noted that Ralph’s Place will use the Strawberry RumShine and Rockade the blueberry.
“There will be the spiced and the regular (rums) at the other locations,” LaPaglia said.
In addition to the $2.50 drinks, there will be appetizers and food specials.
“Some will have food specials. Most places will also be offering live entertainment,” she said.
People can pick up a passport for the crawl in advance or day of at any of the participating venues.
“You want to get your card stamped at each location,” LaPaglia said.
Passports stamped by all 12 venues can be turned in at the end for a raffle to win the grand prize, a Wicked Dolphin gift basket. The winner will also receive a complimentary tour of the distillery.
The crawl is open to ages 21 and over, and people must have their identification.
“At this event, they need to have their ID handy at each location,” she said. “They will be asked for identification, so please make sure they have their ID available at all locations.”
According to LaPaglia, the turnout for last year’s event was decent.
“We’ve heard a lot of people coming out for it this year. I expect a pretty good turnout,” she said.
LaPaglia encouraged people to come out Saturday and have a good time.
“Everyone should be supporting our own one-and-only local distillery,” she said. “And this is a great way to taste their product at a very, very, very good price.”
