Councilmember Jim Burch honored with 2014 Home Rule Hero Award
The Florida League of Cities has recognized Cape Coral Councilmember Jim Burch with a 2014 Home Rule Hero Award.
The award was presented to Burch for “his tireless efforts to advance the League’s legislative agenda and help protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2014 legislative session,” a release from the league states.
Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials both elected and nonelected who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective to an issue.
“Councilmember Burch embodies the definition of a Home Rule Hero. He is extremely dedicated and works hard for the citizens of Cape Coral,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley in a prepared statement. “He brings that same level of commitment and energy to helping the Florida League of Cities lobbying team, especially in the areas of growth management and economic development. Councilmember Burch is always ready and willing to contact legislators and help advocate in support of home rule. He is a tremendous asset to his city and the state of Florida.”
Burch was first elected to the District 1 council seat in 2007. He also served as mayor after being appointed by the city council in 2008 to complete the remainder of Mayor Eric Feichthaler’s term. Burch was then elected again to council in 2013 and currently serves as consultant and chairman for the American Public Works Association.
