1 min read

A burglar linked to dozens of break-ins in Cape Coral has pled to 20 years in prison, according to authorities.

Michael Scott Spees, 45, of 1005 N.E. Eighth Terrace, was arrested Nov. 21, 2012, and subsequently charged with 14 counts of burglary, 13 counts of grand theft, six counts of criminal mischief and false information to a pawnbroker.

After nearly two years of Spees fighting his charges in court, he recently took a plea deal for 20 years in the Florida Department of Corrections as a felony habitual offender.

“Thanks to the solid work of our officers and detectives, and the tireless efforts of the State Attorney’s Office, this serial burglar will be off the streets for many years to come,” Sgt. Dana Coston, of the Cape Coral Police Department, said.
