Updated: Cape police release name of shooting victim
The Cape Coral Police Department has identified the victim in a fatal shooting that took place early Saturday morning.
The victim is identified as Pierre Jacques Dervil, 34, of 4021 S.E. 12th Avenue, Cape Coral.
As this is still an ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time, officials said Monday.
“Since the events surrounding the shooting on Saturday morning, our officers and investigators have been working non-stop identifying and talking to witnesses, gathering evidence, and following up on leads,” said Det. Sgt. Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department spokesperson, in a prepared statement. “This investigation is progressing very well. However, since it is still ongoing, we have to be cautious as to just how much information is released at this time, so as not to jeopardize the case. As more information becomes available, we will continue to share it with the public and our partners in the media.”

Cape Coral police responding to a report of shots fired found a man dead of multiple gunshot wounds outside a small apartment building in the 4000 block of Southeast 12th Ave. early Saturday morning.
Police, who say the incident was “not random,” are investigating the death as the city’s first homicide of 2014.
The call to to 4021 SE. 12th Ave. came in shortly after 4 a.m.
While checking the area, responding officers located the victim, described only as a black male, in the parking lot at the address. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers quickly secured the area, established a perimeter, and began the investigation. Cape Coral Police Department Detectives, Forensics personnel, and additional Patrol Officers responded to assist with gathering evidence, canvassing the neighborhood, identifying and locating witnesses, and attempting to identify a suspect, officials said in a release issued Saturday monring.
“Cape Coral Police Department personnel will be in the area for several more hours processing the crime scene and gathering evidence,: the release states.
Currently, the Cape Coral Police Department does not have a suspect in this case. No information will be released regarding the identity of the victim, pending notification of next-of-kin.
