Tour de Cape registration deadline Jan. 17
Time is getting short, but there’s still time to register for the 23rd annual Tour de Cape run and cycling celebration to be held on Jan. 17-19 based at The Joint restaurant at Cape Harbour.
Tour de Cape offers a 5K run, four different cycling tour distances of 15, 30, 60 and 100 miles through Cape Coral’s scenic west and north sections, plus a safe, flat Kids/Family Fun Mini Tour ride. All cycling events come with continental breakfast, lunch and entertainment.
The pre-event celebration on Friday, Jan. 17, includes participant packet pick up, final pre-registration, dining and entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Joint.
The Kids/Family Fun Mini Tour ride is a new addition by the sponsoring Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Special Events Division. The course is flat and safe and well supported by Cape Coral Police. Cycling helmets are required for participation. Registration ($5 fee) will be taken only from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, with the ride starting at 10 a.m. All riders receive a T-shirt and a hot dog lunch afterwards.
Runners assemble for the 5K for a continental breakfast and check-in at 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 18, with the race starting at 8 a.m. The course is designed for both advanced and novice runners.
The registration fee for the 5K run is $15 in advance or $20 during Saturday’s check-in.
The main event arrives on Sunday, Jan. 19, when hundreds of cyclists assemble at The Joint for one of the four cycling tours. Continental breakfast, late registration and check-in for all tours is 6:30 a.m. The 60- and 100-mile tours start pedaling at 8 a.m. followed by the 15- and 30-mile tours at 8:30 a.m.
All cycling courses are challenging for beginner to expert cyclists and are manned by support teams, SAG vehicles, Cape Coral Police, rest stations, route maps, snacks and beverages. The tours return to Cape Harbour for the finish, lunch and entertainment.
Registration for the cycling tours costs $30 in advance or $35 during event check-in. For those wanting to participate in both the 5K and the cycling tours a combo run/ride package is available for $35 in advance, $40 on the day of the event.
Riders under 18 years of age must have registration forms co-signed by a parent or legal guardian. Those under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Even though the tours are not races, an approved helmet is required for all cyclists as the tours are not on closed street courses.
Registration can be achieved by submitting forms with payment through the mail, online at www.active.com, or at the kickoff celebration on Jan. 17 at The Joint.
