Gov. Scott sets special election dates for District 19 seat
Gov. Rick Scott has set the dates for a special primary and general election to fill the congressional seat left vacant by the resignation of Trey Radel.
The special primary for District 19 will be April 22. The special general election will be held June 24.
Radel, a Republican serving his first term, resigned in the wake of an arrest for possession of cocaine late last year. Saying he had an issue with alcohol, Radel entered rehab and vowed to stay in office. Upon returning to Washington D.C. after the first of the year, however, he said he found that he could no longer “fully and effectively” represent Southwest Florida.
