CCPD: 57 pounds of pot found in grow house
Police seized more than 57 pounds of marijuana from a Cape Coral home and arrested one person.
Luisa Coromoto Bado, 49, of 8565 N.W. 196th Terrace, Hialeah, was charged Wednesday with one count each of producing marijuana, marijuana traffick excess of 25 pounds or 300 plants or more and drugs traffick own rent structure vehicle know traffic drugs, according to police officials Thursday.
Bado was additionally charged with three counts of drug equipment possess and or use.
She has since been released from the Lee County Jail on $36,000 bond.
On Wednesday, police responded to a residence at 4114 E. Gator Circle after Lee County Electric Cooperation discovered that electrical power was being illegally diverted to the home. When officers arrived, they reportedly could smell the odor of raw marijuana coming from the front of the home.
A search warrant was obtained and detectives from the Cape Coral Police Department’s Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit made contact with Bado in the home, officials reported.
Inside of the residence, detectives reportedly discovered a fully operational, marijuana grow house operation. A total of 57.3 pounds of cannabis were seized, along with $13,000 in U.S. currency.
An investigation revealed that Bado had rented the home for the explicit purpose of cultivating cannabis and was paid by a third party to maintain the crop, according to officials.
She was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
Bado could not be reached for comment Thursday on the allegations.
She has a court appearance scheduled for March 3.
Officials reported Thursday that the investigation continues. Additional arrests are possible.
