Man involved in shooting remains hospitalized
A Cape Coral man remained hospitalized Tuesday after he apparently shot his wife and himself.
Michael G. Young, 49, is no longer in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after Saturday’s incident. According to officials, he has been moved to a regular room at the facility.
At about 11:18 p.m., Cape police responded to reports of multiple shots fired at 2918 S.W. First Place. Approximately two minutes later, a second caller contacted authorities and reported shots fired.
Officers were advised that one person was shot and another person possibly shot themself.
Police arrived on scene and discovered Sally A. Young, 49, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a report, she was shot outside of her residence and the weapon was a shotgun.
Young was transported from the scene in critical condition with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials reported that the couple’s 9-year-old son, who was present, was unharmed.
As of Tuesday, the boy was in the care of family members.
“The investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges against Michael G. Young are pending,” Sgt. Dana Coston, spokesman for the Cape police, reported in a prepared statement released Monday.
