Precautionary boil water notice for Gulf Elementary and Gulf Middle schools
The city of Cape Coral will be issuing a precautionary boil water notice later this evening for Gulf Elementary and Gulf Middle schools. A city utilities crew will be working tonight to isolate and repair a leak to a service lateral running beneath Southwest 20th Avenue. The service lateral provides potable water to the schools. The leak was detected Wednesday during an inspection of a well. The city had intended to wait until the weekend to make the repairs; however, the size of the leak has progressed and must be located and repaired immediately to avoid serious damage to the road.
Lee County school officials have been notified of the repair and precautionary boil water notice. School officials have sealed off drinking water fountains and will provide bottled water for the next few school days. The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until notification from the Lee County Health Department.
The city will alert the media when the boil water has been rescinded.
