Cape driver involved in fatal pedestrian accident

1 min read

A pedestrian died Tuesday morning after being struck by a truck driven by a Cape Coral man.

Domingo Cuevas-Hernandez, 35, of Fort Myers, was pronounced dead on scene.

At 9:04 a.m., Cuevas-Hernandez tried to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 41, north of Sanibel Boulevard, when he was hit by a Dodge Ram that was traveling south in the inside lane. Cape resident Chris Lawrence Spoke, 51, was driving the truck, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Due to traffic in the other lanes, Spoke reportedly could not see Cuevas-Hernandez.

The front of the Ram struck Cuevas-Hernandez, throwing him into the southbound center lane. The truck then came to a controlled stop in the southbound inside lane, according to the FHP.

Cuevas-Hernandez sustained fatal injuries in the crash; Spoke was not injured.

Officials reported Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing, but charges are not expected.
