Woman injured in crash now listed in ‘fair’ condition
A hospitalized woman’s status has been upgraded after a deadly crash nearly two months ago.
As of Thursday, Susan C. Reynolds, 29, of 2903 W. 52nd St., Lehigh Acres, was listed in fair condition at Tampa General Hospital, where she was taken following the Sept. 7 accident in Cape Coral.
The driver of the vehicle that she was in, Patrick Logue, 56, of the Cape, died on scene.
According to police, Logue and Reynolds were headed eastbound on Rose Garden Road North in an unknown sports car. At 12:23 a.m., Logue lost control of the vehicle where the road curved, and the car spun around and entered the center median, crashing rear end first into a palm tree in the 5600 block.
Due to the collision, the vehicle caught on fire.
Reynolds was able to get out of the car and was dragged away from it by witnesses on scene.
Logue was unable to escape and was pronounced dead by responders, officials reported.
Reynolds sustained life-threatening injuries, with burns over more than 65 percent of her body. According to police, she was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, then trauma-alerted to Tampa.
Logue and the vehicle were unidentifiable immediately following the accident.
The Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified him days later. An autopsy was performed.
Officials did not know at the time if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
Witnesses on scene reported hearing screeching tires, then the impact. One man told police that he observed the vehicle’s driver appear to lose control on the bend, just prior to the accident.
A traffic homicide investigation is being conducted.
