Two Cape Coral teens remained hospitalized Friday after a motorcycle crash days earlier.

Jake Goldsmith, 18, and Tori Stehilk, 17, were both listed in serious condition in Bradenton at Blake Medical Center, where they were transported following the accident Wednesday on Interstate 75.

At about 5:49 p.m., Goldsmith was driving a 1994 Honda VXR southbound in the center lane and Stehilk was a passenger, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. About one mile south of Laurel Road in Sarasota, a 2012 Toyota Camry traveling behind the VXR crashed into the rear of the motorcycle.

The Camry’s driver, Melissa Esposito, 48, of North Port, failed to observe Goldsmith slowing.

According to the FHP, the Camry traveled for about 400 feet with the VXR caught under its front carriage before stopping. Both Goldsmith and Stehilk were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Goldsmith was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while Stehilk sustained critical injuries.

Esposito was not injured in the crash, the FHP reported. She was cited for careless driving.
