Sullivan, Sawicki advance in mayor’s race; Burch and Headd advance in District 1

With all precincts reporting, Mayor John Sullivan and challenger Marni Lin Sawicki will advance to the General Election for Cape Coral City Council as will District 1 candidates Jim Burch and David Headd.

Sullivan, who is seeking his second term, culled nearly 37 percent of the vote. Sawicki, who came in second in the six-way race, earned 22.34 percent.

In the District 1 primary, Burch received 57.39 percent of the vote in the four-way race while Headd received 26.41 percent.

As per the city charter, the top two vote-getters in each race advance, regardless of the percentage of votes received.

Turnout for the election was below 8 percent.

The General Election is Nov. 5.

In addition to the mayoral and District 1 runoffs, the ballot will feature the District 4 and 6 council races.

Incumbent Chris Chulakes-Leetz faces challenger Richard Leon in District 4.

Incumbent Kevin McGrail faces challenger Rick Williams in District 6.
