1 min read

North Fort Myers High School is set to honor a living legend Friday night.

Coach Ron Hoover will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27, immediately before the Red Knights take on Cape Coral High School in football.

Hoover coached football at North Fort Myers High School from 1968 to 1986 and amassed a total of 117 wins. He set the course for the “Big Red Machine” under Coach Hoover’s leadership, winning football games became a habit at NFMHS. During his time at North, he coached great players such as Johnny Long, Deion Sanders, Warren Williams and Richard Fain. Current Red Knight football coach Brian Makar, who played for and coached under Coach Hoover, summed the coach’s legacy up best.

“Coach Hoover built North Fort Myers football, the pride and tradition that holds true today,” he said in a prepared statement released by the school district. “He IS and will forever BE Red Knight football.”
