Man struck by vehicle released from the hospital
A man was released from the hospital nearly two weeks after he was run over in Cape Coral.
As of Thursday, Glen R. Adkins, 42, of 15850 Catalpa Cove Drive, Fort Myers, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the incident outside of The DEK Bar.
At about 2 a.m. Aug. 24, police responded to a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian at 4704 S.E. 14th Ave. Upon arrival, they found Adkins on the ground, bleeding from his head and other areas.
Adkins told police that he was hit by a vehicle and provided the vehicle’s make and color.
Witnesses reported that Adkins, the driver of the vehicle and the driver’s passenger got into an argument in the parking lot prior to the incident, according to a police report. The driver later moved his vehicle into the road, then Adkins apparently hit the passenger while outside of the vehicle.
The driver reportedly lurched his vehicle forward and stopped, and Adkins backed away.
The driver again accelerated forward, this time striking Adkins with the vehicle, officials said. Adkins got caught under the vehicle as the driver jumped the curb, drove up on a sidewalk and back onto the road.
Adkins was released, and the driver came to a stop for a few seconds before driving away.
Witnesses reported that the driver had previously been to The DEK and provided a possible name.
Adkins was transported to the hospital with incapacitating injuries, according to the report.
Shortly after the incident, the passenger called 911 and reported that he was punched in the face by Adkins. He did not wish to press charges, but provided a statement about what had taken place.
A copy of the alleged driver’s bar tab from The DEK was placed into evidence by police.
