Bangles, Bubbles & Bling fund raiser set for Saturday

People have an opportunity Saturday to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.

John Michael’s Diamond & Jewelry Studio and the American Cancer Society present the second annual Bangles, Bubbles & Bling for “the Girls” fundraiser from 1 to 6 p.m. at 1331 Cape Coral Parkway E. The proceeds will go toward the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

“It was kind of a prelude, a kickoff to breast cancer awareness month,” John Michael Glorioso, the owner of John Michael’s Diamond & Jewelry Studio, said about hosting the first one last year.

He described the fundraiser as a community event.

“I always try to strive to do something for the community, so we can be a community,” Glorioso said. “The fundraiser just gave a good reason to do that.”

The event will include a silent auction indoors and a host of activities in the parking lot.

The auction features two JetBlue airline tickets, tickets for the Key West Express, Naples Zoo and Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, golf packages, signature jewelry and other valuable items.

“Some artwork,” he said.

Outside, there will be approximately 15 vendors for a variety of things.

“We have breast cancer awareness T-shirts. We have costume jewelry,” Glorioso said.

“We have more vendors and we have the cruise this to year,” he added.

A raffle is being held for a seven-night Royal Caribbean cruise for two, with taxes, fees and prepaid gratuity included. The tickets are $5 each and can be purchased day of or in advance at the store.

There will be 1,500 tickets sold for the raffle, and about 1,000 were still available Thursday.

Along with the vendors, there will be a “Dunk a Hunk” tank featuring a local Cape official, a “Bow Wow Bling” dog fashion show and contest, and a photo booth. Entertainment will include live music, a martial arts demonstration, line dancing and a K-9 demonstration by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have a kids’ corral that’ll have kids games,” Glorioso said.

There will also be fire truck rides for the children.

“We just have a lot going on,” he said. “It is a community event.”

The Mobile Mammography coach will be on site to provide reduce rate mammograms.

“Mammography is proven preventive health care that saves lives and makes a difference in long-term survival of those diagnosed with breast cancer,” Patti Granitz, coordinator for the Mobile Mammo, said. “Mobile mammo is a great way to bring the convenience of annual screening to the community.”

Annual screenings should be performed at 40, or earlier for those with family history or at high risk.

“Most commercial insurances cover with no outer pocket expenses to the participant,” she said.

Space is limited Saturday. To schedule an appointment for a mammography, call (239) 936-2316.

The fundraiser will have food vendors on hand, as well as complimentary pink champagne.

Last year’s event raised about $9,000. Glorioso hopes to hit that, plus more, this time.

“Every year we want to get a little bit bigger,” he said. “The response has been really good.”
