Three Cape men accused of plot to rob, kidnap man

Three Cape Coral men are accused of plotting to rob, kidnap, torture and possibly kill a man.

Mohamed S. Aly, 40, Cornell Windel Bunting, 33, and Earl Anthony Polack, 34, were taken into custody Monday for an alleged plot that targeted a man in Georgia who owed them money. All three remained detained Tuesday at the Lee County Jail on bond, according to the jail booking records.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received information about the group’s alleged plans on Thursday. Detectives learned that they were gathering firearms, masks, body armor, zip ties and other weapons.

Officials reported that the group intended to kidnap the victim, and any of the man’s employees who got in the way. If the victim failed to comply with their demands, they talked about using torture.

The group reportedly indicated that they would kill the man, if necessary.

On Monday, Aly, Bunting and Polack loaded their weapons and supplies into a 2007 Dodge pickup truck and began to drive to Georgia, according to officials. Members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office intercepted the truck as it was headed north on Burnt Store Road, and the men were detained.

Aly, of 1932 Hancock Bridge Parkway, and Bunting, 12 N.W. 12th Place, were each arrested and charged with three counts of solicitation to kidnap-commit of facilitate commission of felony, three counts of conspiracy to attempt to kidnap-commit of facilitate commission of felony and one count each of solicitation of robbery with a firearm and conspiracy to attempt robbery with a firearm.

Polack, of 1208 S.W. 15th Place, was charged with three counts of conspiracy to attempt to kidnap-commit of facilitate commission of felony, as well as conspiracy to attempt robbery with a firearm.

Aly and Bunting are being held on $475,000 bond; Polack is being held on $400,000 bond.

All three men have court appearance scheduled for Sept. 3.
