Anthony’s on the Blvd: Pair of fund raisers set for July
Two upcoming fund-raisers in Cape Coral will help support local veterans and children in need.
Anthony’s on the Blvd will host a pig roast from noon to midnight July 13, followed by Christmas in July from 4 to 7 p.m. July 25.
Proceeds from the roast will benefit the Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation, and new unwrapped toys collected at Christmas in July will be donated to Toys for Tots.
This is the first fund-raiser that the restaurant has held for the Cape veterans group.
“They came to me because I donate food to veterans every month,” owner Tony Serrago said.
“They work strictly off donations, so they’re always looking for help,” he said.
The roast costs $15 per person and includes the choice of a portion of the pig or a pork sandwich and two sides. The side selections include potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and corn on the cob.
“They get 100 percent of the $15 donation,” Serrago said of the veterans foundation.
Five hundred to 700 people are expected over the course of the day.
“We’re, hopefully, expecting 500-plus people,” he said.
Deejay Tommy Tom will provide entertainment, along with the band Hung Jury and a second group.
“We’ll have door prizes to give away,” Serrago said.
The prizes range from coolers and CDs, to big ticket items like a neon bar sign.
There will likely be a 50/50 drawing held.
“We’ll also have like $1 Jello shots throughout the day and other drink specials,” he said.
Serrago emphasized that the event benefits veterans in the local community.
“We forget sometimes the little things, and why we have the privileges that we do,” he said.
Anthony’s regular lunch and dinner menus will be available for those not interested in the pig roast.
Santa Claus will make a guest appearance at the annual Christmas in July.
Serrago explained that it is the fifth year that the restaurant has hosted the event.
“It’s just an added thing where we can get a head start on the Toys for Toys program,” he said.
Children are invited to take pictures with Santa, and possibly Mrs. Claus.
“Come out and bring your cameras,” Serrago said.
“You can get an early start on your Christmas card mailing,” he added.
Any family or party that brings in a toy to donate will receive a $5 off coupon for Anthony’s.
“You can use it any time,” Serrago said.
He called Christmas in July a “feel good” fund-raiser.
“It’s good for my business,” Serrago said. “But, more importantly, it’s for the children.”
Following Santa’s visit, the restaurant will host its weekly Thursday comedy show at 7:30 p.m.
“A portion of the proceeds is also going to the Toys for Tots program,” he said.
The show features a national headliner, with a minimum of five years of experience.
“We also always have at least two local comedians from around the area,” Serrago said.
There is no admission, but Anthony’s asks that patrons spend a minimum of $12 per person.
“Come for dinner and watch the show,” he said.
Anthony’s on the Blvd is at 1303 Del Prado Blvd.
