2 min read

The 2013 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-4, across the state of Florida.

During the three-day weekend event, there will be no sales tax or local option tax collected on the sales of footwear, clothing and certain clothing accessories selling for $75 or less per item, or certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item.

In addition, this year, personal computers and certain related accessories, selling for $750 or less per item, have been added to the list of sales tax holiday items. Under state law, “personal computer” includes any electronic book reader, laptop, desktop, handheld, tablet or tower computer, but not cellular telephones, video game consoles, digital media receivers or devices that are not primarily designed to process data.

“Related computer accessories” includes keyboards, mice, personal digital assistants, monitors (not with TV tuners), modems, routers and nonrecreational software.

“Clothing” means any article of wearing apparel, including all footwear (no skis, swim finds, roller blades or skates), but not watches, watch bands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs or sporting equipment.

Shoppers can save on a wide variety of school supplies such as pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, notebook filler paper, legal pads, binders, lunch boxes, construction paper, markers, folders, poster board, composition books, poster paper, scissors, cellophane tape, glue, paste, rulers, computer disks, protractors, compasses and calculators.
