Parkway Antiques and Home Furnishings celebrates 10 years
After 13 years of selling antiques throughout Southwest Florida, Scott Coon decided he wanted a place of his own. So, he came to Cape Coral.
Ten years later, one of Cape Coral’s most popular small businesses is celebrating a decade of serving local residents.
Parkway Antiques and Home Furnishings has been furnishing homes throughout Southwest Florida with a variety of select, high-end antiques and fine furniture pieces since 2003.
Before that, Coon never really had a place to call home.
“We began down in Naples in an antique mall (in 1990) before we went to Fort Myers and rented a place on McGregor for 10 years,” Coon said. “I said it was time to find our own place. I lived in the Cape so we bought a place downtown.”
Coon also bought the building next door, which allowed him to expand an extra 2,500 square feet.
Coon, who co-owns the shop with former Cape Coral Fire Chief Tom Tomich, selects fine quality items for his store, usually travelling as far as North Carolina to buy them. He has also recently expanded to include bronze fountains for the yard or by the pool.
“We do a lot with fountains. They are from two feet to seven feet, and range from $1,000 and up,” Coon said, “Our bronze mermaid fountains and dolphins are a big hit with locals and visitors alike.”
The store has a wide selection of paintings, chandeliers, jewelry, stained glass lamps and other unique items to accessorize your home or office.
Coon said you can buy a lamp for $30 or for several thousand. He said he has had some people who bought all their items while remodeling at his store.
Period antiques join mid-century modern and contemporary furniture and accessories to make this the perfect place for shoppers looking to furnish or accessorize their homes.
The Cape Coral Festival of the Arts is Parkway’s Christmas, when thousands stop in and take a look at the art and furnishings.
“Those are our two biggest days. We have 100,000 to 150,000 people those two days,” Coon said. “We sold most of our fountains and oil paintings.”
Coon said he will celebrate the occasion by offering anniversary savings throughout the store. However, the store will soon close for the summer as Coon and Tomich go shopping throughout the east coast to restock in time for the fall.
