Firefighters douse garage fire

The quick response by the Cape Coral Fire Department prevented a residential structure fire from spreading from the garage area into living area of a home in the Southwest Cape.

According to a report issued by the city of Cape Coral, Monday at 11 p.m., the CCFD received a report of structure fire at 9 S.W. 37th Place. First-arriving units were reportedly on scene within six minutes and reported a fully involved garage fire with flames impinging on the vehicle in the driveway.

Fire Attack, Search and Rescue and Ventilation were initiated as equipment and personnel arrived on scene. The fire was called under control quickly, and the search for possible victims confirmed all occupants of the residence were safely outside.

The fire occurred in an area of the city not served by city utilities and where fire hydrants are not in close proximity. Water tenders were utilized to ensure enough water was available for fire suppression, the report stats.

Water tenders from both the city of Cape Coral Fire Department and the Pine Island Fire Department responded.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The occupants of the home were assisted with lodging by the Red Cross.
