The city of Cape Coral’s Public Works Department will be hosting public events in recognition of National Public Works Week, which is May 19 25. Public Works staff will host an open house at their new, renovated office area in the Nicholas Annex (815 Nicholas Parkway) on Wednesday, May 22 from 10 a.m. noon. Staff also will provide equipment demonstrations to show the public the important role that Public Works plays in building a better community. Mayor John Sullivan will be issuing a proclamation as well.

National Public Works Week has been a tradition of the American Public Works Association, whose members work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services. Activities and programs scheduled for the week will celebrate the contributions of public works professionals and the value they provide in keeping the citizens safe and the community functioning smoothly. The objective is to increase public awareness about the duties, practices and goals of public works professionals.

Public works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and refuse removal systems as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds, and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety and comfort.
