Cape man accused of lewd or lascivious behavior
A Cape Coral man and former Rhode Island law enforcement officer is accused of lewd or lascivious behavior related to a teenage victim.
Walter Edward Jameson, 66, of 149 S.E. 27th Terrace, was arrested and charged April 16 with one count of lewd lascivious behavior victim 12 years of age up to 16 years of age offender 18 years of age older, according to Lee County records.
The State Attorney’s Office had not officially filed charges Tuesday.
“His case is being reviewed, and he has not been charged yet,” Samantha Syoen, spokeswoman for the State Attorney’s Office, said in an e-mail.
Jameson has since been released from the Lee County Jail.
He declined to comment on the circumstances of his arrest Tuesday, directing inquires to his defense attorney, Sawyer Smith of Fort Myers.
Smith did not return a message seeking comment on the case.
According to the city of Central Falls in Central Falls, R.I., Jameson was employed as a patrolman for the police department from 1974 to 1986. The grounds for his departure from the agency were unclear as of Tuesday.
Jameson has an arraignment scheduled for May 20.
