Water main break causes temporary pressure problems
A 16-inch water main break this morning at Southeast 27th Terrace and Archer Parkway caused low pressure problems for many of the city’s water/sewer customers. The main break has been isolated and pressure throughout the system restored; however, some customers may experience cloudy or brown water for the next 6090 minutes. The discolored water does not pose a health risk.
At about 7 a.m., the city received a report of a water line break near Jason Verdow Park. Because of the size of the water main, many customers experienced reduced water pressure. Crews arrived on scene within 15 minutes and began isolating the break. By 8:20 a.m., the break was isolated and water pressure restored to the city’s customers outside the break area.
When large water mains kick in and begin pumping water, the pressure flushes the lines and produces the cloudy or brown tint in the water. Customers can run their water for a few minutes or wait for about an hour before using their water to allow the cloudiness and color to dissipate.
The water main should be repaired and water restored to the impacted area within about five hours. Any customers in the immediate area will be provided with a precautionary boil water notice once the repairs are complete.
