Cape woman involved in fatal traffic accident
A Cape Coral motorist apparently struck and killed a bicyclist Monday.
Christopher Weems, 53, of Punta Gorda, was riding north on U.S. 41 when he came to the intersection at Main Street at about 4:57 p.m. He tried to make a left turn onto Main and was struck by a southbound Ford vehicle.
Pamela Ann Corlieto, 48, of the Cape, was driving the 2008 Ford.
The Ford struck the right side of Weems’ bicycle, and he was ejected.
Weems was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Corlieto sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to Charlotte Regional Medical Center, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Her hospital condition was unknown as of Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing, officials reported.
