A Cape Coral was sentenced to two years in state prison Monday after recently pleading guilty to soliciting a child and traveling to meet a minor.

Gary Russell Sandt, 51, of 1421 S.E. 26th St., received 24 months for computer pornography solicitation of a child unauthorized use of a computer service and traveling to meet a minor, according to official documents.

As part of the plea agreement with state prosecutors, Sandt also pleaded guilty to one count of possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams.

One count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device was dropped.

Samantha Syoen, spokeswoman for the State Attorney’s Office, reported that Sandt will be designated as a sex offender under the sentencing.

He was also ordered to pay court costs and fines.

“This is one defendant of several from Operation Spiderweb, an undercover sex sting,” Syoen said. “We expect to have more resolutions in the future.”

Assistant state attorney Stephanie Russell handled the case.

Attorney Jean-Paul Galasso represented Sandt.

Galasso did not return messages seeking comment on the case.
