‘Big Rig Books’ to help launch K is for Kids literacy drive
Big Rig Books has rolled into town just in time to help local nonprofit K is for Kids Foundation launch its literacy month for children and to help it distribute books to children in need.
The two organizations will be distributing books to children through schools and other nonprofits throughout Collier and Lee counties.
“K is for Kids is thrilled to announce it has entered into a collaboration with Big Rig Books to distribute books to children — and the timing couldn’t be better. What better way to launch our literacy month than to have a big rig pull up to schools with a beautiful bookmobile full of new books for the students? We know they’re be so excited,” said Karen Clawson, K is for Kids founder and executive director, in a prepared statement. “We also trust that seeing the bookmobile will stir wonderful memories of some of our older residents as well.”
The recycled bookmobile arrives with a new twist: The kids who get to climb onboard will be doing so to check out a new book that they get to take home and keep.
“It’s a great way to stir children’s imagination and encourage them to read more,” Clawson said.
The Rig’s first stop?
“We’re anticipating our first delivery will be to students at Golden Terrace Elementary School in Naples next week,” said Clawson. “Golden Terrace is the focus school for K is for Kids’ Rising Readers program.”
Big Rig Books can pack up to 7,000 books and the Foundation hopes to keep the bookmobile packed so that students of all ages can continue to receive new books to read.
