The Cape Coral Police Department has made an arrest in a homicide investigation that began Monday morning at 1134 S.W. 16th Terrace, according to officials.

Police responded to the home after receiving a call from Thomas Verzi Jr., of Orlando. He wanted officers to check the welfare of his father, Thomas Verzi Sr., along with his brother, Baron Verzi, who both lived at the residence.

He told police that his brother acted strangely on the phone and would not let him speak with their father.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Baron Verzi at the home with blood on his clothing and suffering from apparent stab wounds to his arm and leg. Officers then found Thomas Verzi Sr. lying on the floor of the family room in a pool of blood with apparent stab wounds. Thomas Verzi Sr., 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baron Verzi was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Detectives responded to the hospital and interviewed him about the incident.

According to officials, Baron Verzi confessed to detectives that he stabbed his father earlier Monday morning after the two had argued. He left the home and drove around for a short while, stopped for gas and eventually returned to the home.

Baron reportedly told detectives that he saw the scene and began to stab himself. Shortly after, his brother called and became concerned.

Baron Verzi, 17, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was transported to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center at the Lee County Jail.
