Fashion Show to benefit Special Populations

3 min read

People can help support a local program and get a sneak peek at some of summer’s hottest looks at an upcoming fashion show and luncheon.

Cape Coral Special Populations will host its Fourth Annual Fashion Show & Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Lake Kennedy Senior Center. Tickets are $20 each and can be bought until the June 8 deadline.

“I think that it’s really a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon,” Vince Marcucci, president of the Guardian Angels for Special Populations, said. “It’s all about raising money for Special Populations.”

About a dozen models will take to the runaway during the show.

“Probably nine will be Special Populations program participants,” he said, adding that parents and staff members’ relatives will fill out the rest.

Each model will showcase a casual outfit and a dressy outfit. Belk is providing the fashions, along with accessories. The shoes will belong to the models.

“We’re really trying to sell tickets in advance,” Marcucci said. “Just so we can get a handle on the food – keep our costs low.”

Tickets can be purchased over the telephone using a credit card, or by stopping by the Cape Coral Special Populations center to buy them.

The price includes lunch, beverages and entry into door prize contests.

Lunch consists of three types of salad – chicken, egg and pasta – along with fresh fruit and a croissant. Soda, juices and more will be available.

Marcucci noted that someone has donated wine for the show, and attendees will be able to buy Chinese auction tickets to trade in for wine spritzers.

For those interested in the Chinese auction, some of the items that will be available include gift baskets, home decor pieces and jewelry.

There also will be a silent auction for various items, including discounts to restaurants and local businesses, a hotel stay, Disney tickets and more.

For door prizes, one person from each table will win a bottle of wine and some sort of decorative container, which will be displayed on tables.

“It’s grown in popularity,” Marcucci said of the fund-raiser.

The models get to show off stylish outfits and their self-confidence.

“I think that’s one of the reasons why people come,” he said. “It’s really great – it’s really heartwarming.”

Lake Kennedy Senior Center is at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd.
