Man dies in crash in northwest Cape Coral

2 min read

A Cape Coral man was found dead Wednesday morning in an SUV-wagon that he apparently drove off of a roadway, then launched off of a dirt incline.

EMS pronounced Justin Edward Stockman, 32, of 1702 N.W. Fifth St., dead at 9:15 a.m. He was found seat-belted into a 2011 Kia Soul that was located 84 feet from where Chiquita Boulevard North turns left into Jacaranda Parkway.

According to police, Stockman was traveling north on Chiquita when he failed to negotiate a 90-degree curve in the road where it becomes Jacaranda. The vehicle traveled about 37 feet before encountering a dirt property barricade.

The Kia reportedly launched up and partially through the dirt incline, landing nose first approximately 48 feet away. Following impact, the vehicle slid and rotated. It rolled down the slope, finally coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Police reported that the airbag deployed. No obvious outward signs of injury were present on the victim, but further examination is planned by the medical examiner.

No other vehicle or person appears to have been involved in the crash.

According to police, numerous empty beer cans were found in the vehicle.

It was not clear Wednesday whether drug or alcohol tests were pending.

Speed does not appear to be factor in the accident, police reported.
