State declines to prosecute man accused of bank robbery
The State Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute a case earlier this year that involved a man accused of a bank robbery in 2005 in Cape Coral.
Amos Joseph, 29, of Fort Myers, was picked up in December on a felony warrant for one count of robbery with a firearm. The following month, the state declined to prosecute on the charge, according to official records.
Joseph could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Defense attorney Christopher Whitney represented him.
Whitney did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
In June 2005, the SunTrust at 1533 Coronado Parkway was robbed by two men. One man was armed with a handgun and threatened to shoot anyone who did not follow his orders. The other had the manager open the cash drawer.
The men fled with a bag filled with some money, including bait money with a dye pack. Authorities later located the bag, along with the exploded dye pack. In an investigation, police reportedly identified Joseph as the unarmed man.
Detectives secured a warrant for his arrest, but he was no longer in the area. In December, authorities located Joseph and he was taken into custody.
Assistant State Attorney Andrew Marcus handled the case.
