Cape Coral man accused of molesting child under 12
A Cape Coral man has been accused of a sex offense against a child under 12.
Steven August Weisbrod, 48, of 3608 S.E. Eighth Place, was arrested and charged Friday with one count of fondling molest victim less than 12 years of age offender 18 years of age or older. He was booked at the county jail.
On May 26, the Department of Children and Families contacted the Cape police regarding allegations of sexual abuse, according to an arrest report.
During an interview, the alleged victim told detectives that Weisbrod had inappropriately touched him or her in 2005 when he or she was 11 years old. The now-teen reported that these incidents “happened for a few months.”
Weisbrod reportedly would sometimes get on top of the child.
The teen told police that their clothes stayed on during the incidents.
On Friday, Weisbrod was questioned by detectives. He allegedly admitted to touching the child once in 2005, but he realized what he was doing was wrong and stopped. Weisbrod reportedly said there was only the one incident, and he denied lying on top of the child.
He was taken into custody and transferred to the Lee County Jail.
According to the report, the child’s mother learned of at least one incident when it occurred in 2005 from her child. She told detectives that she did not contact police at the time, preferring rather to deal with the matter herself.
When she confronted Weisbrod, he reportedly apologized and said he did not know what he was thinking. He told the child’s mother it only happened once.
As of Monday, Weisbrod had been released from jail on $25,000 bond.
A phone message left at his home was not immediately returned.
Weisbrod has a court date scheduled July 5.
