Cape man sentenced to 15 years on drug charges

A Cape Coral man recently received 15 years in prison on drug charges.
Darien Cedric Wright, 45, of 911 S.E. 13th Terrace, was adjudicated guilty last week on two counts of selling opium or a derivative and one count each of possess synthetic narcotic with intent to sell manufacture or deliver and trafficking opium or a derivative 4 grams to under 30 kilograms.
Wright pleaded no contest to the charges.
According to officials, he faced a mandated 25-year sentence for being in possession of more than 28 grams of an opium derivative if he went to trial.
Two charges of possess controlled substance without a prescription and possess amphetamine with intent to sell manufacture or deliver were nolle prossed. The State Attorney’s Office did not file two additional charges.
Wright was arrested and charged in April 2010 following a three-month investigation by the Cape police. Detectives had reportedly purchased Oxycodone from him on three separate occasions. He was taken into custody the last time.
A search of Wright’s vehicle revealed a bag containing 20 prescription pill bottles, none of which were in his name. A total of 902 pills were seized, of which 243 were Oxycodone and 290 were Xanax. Wright told police that he sold the Oxycodone for $10 per pill and the Xanax for $6 per pill.
A passenger in Wright’s vehicle was also taken into custody.
James Robinson, 52, also of 911 S.E. 13th Terrace, pleaded no contest in December to one count of selling opium or a derivative and was adjudicated guilty. He was nolle prossed on one count of possess controlled substance without a prescription.
