Brass sprinkler caps reported stolen at Tarpon Landings
Eighteen brass sprinkler caps worth nearly $2,000 were reported stolen from a tower at Tarpon Landings at the Tarpon Point Marina and Resort.
A property manager at Tarpon Landings reported that he discovered 18 3-inch fire sprinkler system water supply caps missing from various locations in the west tower of a building at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday. According to a report filed with the Cape Coral police, the caps are valued at $1,980.
Officials noticed no discrepancies inside the building as of about Aug. 1. There were no missing caps in the other tower or other buildings located in the community, the report states. There are 18 locations in the west tower where water pipes for the sprinkler system are accessible in the stairwells.
Staff told police that anybody can enter a tower’s stairwell from any floor, but they can only exit from the bottom level or by using a key to a level that someone resides on. Police believe the thieves started at the top and worked their way down, then exited from the bottom door, according to the report.
