King Family Foundation donates to Woman’s Club

The Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club announced an $80,000 donation from The King Family Foundation in support of the club’s ongoing campaign to rebuild its historic clubhouse, which was lost to Hurricane Ian in 2022.

This contribution marks another step forward in the club’s mission to restore a vital community gathering place that has served Fort Myers Beach for generations. Originally built in 1938 as a beach schoolhouse, the clubhouse stood as a hub for nonprofit activity, education, and connection until it was destroyed by Hurricane Ian.

“On behalf of the entire Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club, we are deeply grateful to Alex and Nina King for this incredible gift,” said Dawn Thomas, past president of the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club. “This donation not only brings us closer to rebuilding our clubhouse, but it also represents a strong belief in our mission and in the future of Fort Myers Beach.”

Mr. King, who also runs the Alex King Group, said “the island needs a neighborhood community center and gathering place for all residents, especially located in the middle of the island. The Womens Club Community Center will serve that purpose and more. We are 100% behind the rebuild and the Womens Club as they are supporting so many nonprofits on the island and the community as a whole.”

Since Hurricane Ian, the Woman’s Club has has distributed more than $731,000 to island households through its 33931 Fund, donated more than $300,000 to local nonprofit organizations and generated revenue for local businesses through events and initiatives.

The organization’s capital campaign aims to raise $4.2 million to build a new, modern clubhouse and community center.

“The King Family Foundation generosity is more than a donation–it’s an investment in the heart of our island,” Thomas said. “We look forward to honoring this gift as we continue to build momentum and bring our vision to life.”
