Firefighter injured battling blaze on Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach firefighters were able to contain and put out a blaze at a Fort Myers Beach house on Pearl Street Monday afternoon. The cause of the fire was still being investigated Monday evening.
The fire started at about 3:30 p.m., according to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District.
Estero Boulevard was closed off in the area around Pearl Street and the DiamondHead Beach Resort after the fire broke out at the beachfront home.
None of the occupants of the home were injured, Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth said. One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury. The firefighter was treated and released, Wirth said.
The fire was put out by approximately 4:35 p.m. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen, leaving heaving fire damage to the second floor and heavy smoke damage to the third floor.
More than a dozen fire trucks responded to the fire, along with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews from Iona-McGregor Fire and Bonita Fire District responded for assistance with coverage.
DiamondHead Beach Resort General Manager Neil Hopgood said the fire did not spread to the resort’s property.
Hopgood said he believed the owners of the house were close to reopening before the fire.
