The first loggerhead sea turtle nest of the season on Fort Myers Beach has been documented this morning by Turtle Time. The sea turtle nesting season runs through October 31. All shades and curtains need to be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. to protect the threatened turtles nesting and their hatchlings from disorientations.

Loggerhead sea turtles are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Outdoor, unshielded lights that are not downward-directed (such as amber lights) are prohibited from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Beachgoers are asked to pick up any beach furniture from the beach before dusk and to fill in any holes before leaving the beach in order to protect nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings.

Since May 1, there have been four false crawls of nesting sea turtles on Fort Myers Beach, Turtle Time founder Eve Haverfield said.
