Investigation into death on beach, shots fired

A person in their 30s was found dead on Fort Myers Beach Friday, and a report of shots fired brought multiple Lee County Sheriff’s Office vehicles to the area up and down Matanza’s Pass Bridge as well as down to the U.S. Coast Guard Station.

The report of the dead body was reported at approximately 4 p.m. at 719 San Carlos Drive near the U.S. Coast Guard Station, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the public information office of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a death investigation is ongoing.

No further details were released by the Sheriff’s Office as of Wednesday morning.

Investigatory information collected will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted and several vehicles from the Fort Myers Beach Fire District and Lee County Sheriff’s Office were assembled at the station during the response as well. An official with the U.S. Coast Guard referred questions to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office which is handling the investigation.

As of Feb. 24, 10 days after the incident was reported, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has still not release any new information regarding the case.
